Why is your help important?
Violence against women is still a serious problem in Canada, with 61% of all Canadians saying they personally know at least one woman who has been sexually or physically assaulted.
The Canadian Women’s Foundation’s Shelter from the Storm campaign supports more than 450 shelters across Canada, and community violence prevention programs. These programs help women to rebuild their lives after escaping violence, counsel children who’ve witnessed abuse, and teach teens how to have healthy relationships, stopping the violence, for good.

- On average, every six days a woman in Canada is killed by her intimate partner. In 2009, 67 women were murdered by a current or former spouse or boyfriend.
- On any given day in Canada, more than 3,000 women (along with their 2,500 children) are living in an emergency shelter to escape domestic violence.
- Half of all women in Canada have experienced at least one incident of physical or sexual violence since the age of 16.

Help a woman leave an abusive situation:
| $20 | Provides women with access to public transportation or gas money to attend a support and healing program |
| $25 | Honorarium for an elder or a woman of experience to lead a workshop on violence prevention OR Cost for one child to participate in a weekly support group for children who have been exposed to violence |
| $50 | Provides funding for an individual counselling session for a woman in a shelter |
| $100 | Provides one night, food and emergency supplies for a woman and a child entering a shelter for abused women |
| $200 | Allows a women attendance at an educational course, computer skills upgrading or high school equivalency |
| $250 | Provides resources to help a woman with disabilities understand, recognize, and prevent dating violence and abuse |
| $1,000 | Provides training for local first responders to support women who have experienced sexual assault – SART (Sexual Assault Response Teams) |
| $2,500 | Provides “Access Funds” to support women who otherwise would not be able to attend a program due to disabilities, remote location, or language barriers |
