Members of Amalgamated Transit Union Local 113 have rejected the latest offer from Veolia BRT…so the strike continues…
The members, along with other bus drivers for First Canada and Miller Transit, have been on strike in York Region since Oct. 24, 2011, and have inconvenienced about 44,000 riders on 60 per cent of routes.
The strike has now lasted 85 days. After 13 weeks, 200 drivers and mechanics voted on Veolia’s latest offer.
Monday, York Region has terminated its contract with First Canada, which operates 29 YRT/Viva routes for the region, and is looking for a replacement, the municipality said in a release.
The municipality said it also issued letters to York BRT Services and Miller Transit requesting “a detailed service recovery plan” by Jan. 20, “outlining additional region-wide service restoration options while the transit strike continues.”
How are you coping with the transit strike? What would you say to both sides of this situation, if you could?
